The band Uncommon Houseflies is offering an exclusive free download of their song "Pastor Candy Canary" to listeners at We Call This Music Fab. A track from their album Zombie Clowns Ate Your Sister's Kitty, this track will be available exclusively on We Call This Music Fab until next Sunday night, August 19th.
"'Pastor Candy Canary' is actually based on a real person, a minister who is also a competitive body builder," explains Uncommon Houseflies' Kevin Gibson."I just thought the name was so singable, and that the character seemed like someone a song should have been written about for the album Abbey Road (in the vein of 'Polythene Pam,' 'Mean Mr. Mustard,' etc.), so I wrote the melody to match the name, and the lyric followed quickly. My friend and guitarist Kirk Kiefer helped me flesh out the song and played pretty much everything on the song -- ukulele, keyboards, guitar -- except bass and drums. He also did all the backing vocals. Luckily, he's an even bigger Beatles freak than I am, so he totally knew where to take it musically once we started recording. Oh, and by the way, I played the bass parts on a Hofner violin bass copy by Epiphone, just to make it as Beatles-y as possible." To download the song, just right-click on the music player below.
